GALATIANS SUMMARY

Galatians is not written to one church or an individual but to a group of Churches in the Roman province of Galatia. Galatia was a region in Asia Minor or modern day Turkey. It was written before the council in Jerusalem spoken of in Acts 15. Galatians is sometimes called Little Romans because of the similarity of its message with the book of Romans. Galatians is written in response to some Jewish teachers who had come from Jerusalem. These teachers became known as Judaizers because they said that Gentile Christians had to follow Jewish law, especially circumcision and were also trying to convince the Gentiles that Paul’s authority was given by men and not by God. Paul teaches them that salvation cannot be earned by being circumcised and by obeying Jewish laws, but only by faith in Christ Jesus to take away our sins. Acceptance with God comes by believing in Christ. This great news can give us rest and peace since we don’t need to worry about earning it or losing God’s love.
