REVELATION SUMMARY

The last book of the New Testament is also called the Prophecy Book and “The revelation of Jesus Christ.” The author of this Book is John son of Zebedee. The apostle of Jesus and the author of the Gospel of John and the three letters of NT. He was a first Cousin of Jesus and was exiled to the Greek island of Patmos because of his faith. Patmos was a rocky island in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Asia Minor that served as a prison where prisoners were sent. Jesus himself appears to John and instructs him to write down what he will see and hear. The book was penned down around 65 to 95AD as a letter from John to the seven churches around Asia Minor in what is today Turkey. John describes of a voice talking to him while he was on the island of Patmos and he was told to write to the seven churches evaluating the churches and telling them to become interested and passionate about the Christ. Book of Revelation is actually a Christian prophecy book filled with Old Testament-style language and imagery narrating events and descriptions like the mark of the beast, the battle of Armageddon, the binding of Devil, the Rule of the Lord, the Great White Throne of Judgment and the finally the nature of the eternal city of God. The number seven looks very important as it is repeated 52 times in the book. The book deals with the afflictions, tribulations and ultimate salvation of God’s people and emphasizes that God’s vengeance will come upon his enemies. Revelation closes with a vision of the future restored paradise in the new heavens and the new earth where righteous dwell securely forever.
