عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
ʿAmma yatasāʾalūn
About what are they asking one another?

78:3

Alam najʿali l-arḍa mihādā
Have We not made the
earth a resting place?

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًۭا
Wa jaʿalnā nawmakum subātā
And made your sleep [a means for] rest.
78:9

And We made

78:12

78:13

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءًۭ ثَجَّاجًۭا

rain clouds, pouring water.
78:14

And We sent down

ثَجَّاجًۭا
pouring abundantly

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّۭا وَنَبَاتًۭا
Linukh'rija bihī ḥabban wa nabātā
That We may bring forth thereby
grain and vegetation.
78:15

That We may bring forth

وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا
Wa jannātin alfāfā
And gardens of entwined growth.
78:16

(of) thick foliage

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًۭا

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -
78:17

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًۭا
Yawma yunfakhu fī ṣ-ṣūri fataʾtūna afwājā
The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes.
78:18

and you will come forth

And the
heaven is opened and will become gateways.
78:19

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا

And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.
78:20

78:24

78:29

"So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."
78:30

Lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan wa lā kidhdhābā
No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -
78:35

78:36

[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.
78:37

The Day that the
Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is right.
78:38

Innā andharnākum ʿadhāban qarīban yawma yanẓuru l-marʾu mā qaddamat yadāhu wa yaqūlu l-kāfiru yā laytanī kuntu turābā
Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish I were
dust!"
78:40
