SAMUEL-2 SUMMARY

Samuel-2 is a historical book which describes Israel’s transition from a group of tribes to a strong and united nation. It deals with the transition from the period of judges ruling in Israel to the time of kings. Samuel-2 tells the story of three significant men in Israel’s history, Samuel, Saul and David. It recounts the degenerating reign of Saul and the succession to his throne of David. The book describes the most comprehensive account of David’s life, both his victories and struggles, politically as well as personally. It can be divided into two main sections, David’s triumphs chapters 1-10 and David’s troubles chapters 11-20. David’s trust and reliance upon God define his rise to the throne. However, his sin complicates his reign as difficulties are experienced in the relationships that threaten to undo him. The rest of the book narrates the eventful reign of David. The book calls for a complete trust in David as well as his royal line. The book concludes with the blessing of Solomon by King David.
