tta-seen-meem
تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ
til'ka āyātu l-kitābi l-mubīni
These are the verses of the clear Book.
28:2

natlū ʿalayka min naba-i mūsā wafir'ʿawna bil-ḥaqi liqawmin yu'minūna
We recite to you from the news of Moses and
Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe.
28:3

إِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ عَلَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلَ أَهْلَهَا شِيَعًۭا يَسْتَضْعِفُ طَآئِفَةًۭ مِّنْهُمْ يُذَبِّحُ أَبْنَآءَهُمْ وَيَسْتَحْىِۦ نِسَآءَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
inna fir'ʿawna ʿalā fī l-arḍi wajaʿala ahlahā shiyaʿan yastaḍʿifu ṭāifatan min'hum yudhabbiḥu abnāahum wayastaḥyī nisāahum innahu kāna mina l-muf'sidīna
Indeed,
Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters.
28:4

وَنُرِيدُ أَن نَّمُنَّ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ أَئِمَّةًۭ وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
wanurīdu an namunna ʿalā alladhīna us'tuḍ'ʿifū fī l-arḍi wanajʿalahum a-immatan wanajʿalahumu l-wārithīna
And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them the inheritors.
28:5

وَنُمَكِّنَ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَنُرِىَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ وَجُنُودَهُمَا مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَحْذَرُونَ
wanumakkina lahum fī l-arḍi wanuriya fir'ʿawna wahāmāna wajunūdahumā min'hum mā kānū yaḥdharūna
And establish them in the land and show Pharaoh and [his minister] Hāmān and their soldiers through them that which they had feared.
28:6

And [We] establish

وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَرْضِعِيهِ ۖ فَإِذَا خِفْتِ عَلَيْهِ فَأَلْقِيهِ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَلَا تَخَافِى وَلَا تَحْزَنِىٓ ۖ إِنَّا رَآدُّوهُ إِلَيْكِ وَجَاعِلُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
wa-awḥaynā ilā
ummi mūsā an arḍiʿīhi fa-idhā khif'ti ʿalayhi fa-alqīhi fī l-yami walā takhāfī walā taḥzanī innā rāddūhu ilayki wajāʿilūhu mina l-mur'salīna
And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers."
28:7

فَٱلْتَقَطَهُۥٓ ءَالُ فِرْعَوْنَ لِيَكُونَ لَهُمْ عَدُوًّۭا وَحَزَنًا ۗ إِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ وَجُنُودَهُمَا كَانُوا۟ خَـٰطِـِٔينَ
fal-taqaṭahu ālu fir'ʿawna liyakūna lahum ʿaduwwan waḥazanan inna fir'ʿawna wahāmāna wajunūdahumā kānū khāṭiīna
And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a sorrow. Indeed, Pharaoh and Hāmān and their soldiers were sinners.
28:8

فَٱلْتَقَطَهُۥٓ
Then picked him up

وَقَالَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُ فِرْعَوْنَ قُرَّتُ عَيْنٍۢ لِّى وَلَكَ ۖ لَا تَقْتُلُوهُ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَنفَعَنَآ أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُۥ وَلَدًۭا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
waqālati im'ra-atu fir'ʿawna qurratu ʿaynin lī walaka lā taqtulūhu ʿasā an yanfaʿanā aw nattakhidhahu waladan wahum lā yashʿurūna
And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the
eye for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.
28:9

وَأَصْبَحَ فُؤَادُ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰ فَـٰرِغًا ۖ إِن كَادَتْ لَتُبْدِى بِهِۦ لَوْلَآ أَن رَّبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قَلْبِهَا لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
wa-aṣbaḥa fuādu ummi mūsā fārighan in kādat latub'dī bihi lawlā an rabaṭnā ʿalā qalbihā litakūna mina l-mu'minīna
And the heart of Moses' mother became
empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers.
28:10

And became

waqālat li-ukh'tihi quṣṣīhi fabaṣurat bihi ʿan junubin wahum lā yashʿurūna
And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not.
28:11

And she said

۞ وَحَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِ ٱلْمَرَاضِعَ مِن قَبْلُ فَقَالَتْ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍۢ يَكْفُلُونَهُۥ لَكُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُۥ نَـٰصِحُونَ
waḥarramnā ʿalayhi l-marāḍiʿa min qablu faqālat hal adullukum ʿalā ahli baytin yakfulūnahu lakum wahum lahu nāṣiḥūna
And We had prevented from him [all] wet-nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will rear him for you and be sincere to him?"
28:12

فَرَدَدْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّهِۦ كَىْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ وَلِتَعْلَمَ أَنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّۭ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
faradadnāhu ilā ummihi kay taqarra ʿaynuhā walā taḥzana walitaʿlama anna waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqun walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūna
So We returned him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the
promise of Allāh is true. But most of them do not know.
28:13

فَرَدَدْنَـٰهُ
So We restored him
faradadnāhu

وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ وَٱسْتَوَىٰٓ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ حُكْمًۭا وَعِلْمًۭا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
walammā balagha ashuddahu wa-is'tawā ātaynāhu ḥuk'man waʿil'man wakadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīna
And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and
knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good.
28:14

وَدَخَلَ ٱلْمَدِينَةَ عَلَىٰ حِينِ غَفْلَةٍۢ مِّنْ أَهْلِهَا فَوَجَدَ فِيهَا رَجُلَيْنِ يَقْتَتِلَانِ هَـٰذَا مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ وَهَـٰذَا مِنْ عَدُوِّهِۦ ۖ فَٱسْتَغَـٰثَهُ ٱلَّذِى مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ عَلَى ٱلَّذِى مِنْ عَدُوِّهِۦ فَوَكَزَهُۥ مُوسَىٰ فَقَضَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ۖ قَالَ هَـٰذَا مِنْ عَمَلِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ عَدُوٌّۭ مُّضِلٌّۭ مُّبِينٌۭ
wadakhala l-madīnata ʿalā ḥīni ghaflatin min ahlihā fawajada fīhā rajulayni yaqtatilāni hādhā min shīʿatihi wahādhā min ʿaduwwihi fa-is'taghāthahu alladhī min shīʿatihi ʿalā alladhī min ʿaduwwihi fawakazahu mūsā faqaḍā ʿalayhi qāla hādhā min ʿamali l-shayṭāni innahu ʿaduwwun muḍillun mubīnun
And he entered the city at a time of unawareness of its people, and he found therein two men
fighting: one from his faction and one from among his enemies. And the one from his faction called for help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and [unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, "This is from the work of
Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy."
28:15

And he entered

qāla
rabbi innī ẓalamtu nafsī fa-igh'fir lī faghafara lahu innahu huwa l-ghafūru l-raḥīmu
He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
28:16

Then He forgave

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ فَلَنْ أَكُونَ ظَهِيرًۭا لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَ
qāla rabbi bimā anʿamta ʿalayya falan akūna ẓahīran lil'muj'rimīna
He said, "My Lord, for the favor You bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the
criminals."
28:17

فَأَصْبَحَ فِى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ خَآئِفًۭا يَتَرَقَّبُ فَإِذَا ٱلَّذِى ٱسْتَنصَرَهُۥ بِٱلْأَمْسِ يَسْتَصْرِخُهُۥ ۚ قَالَ لَهُۥ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّكَ لَغَوِىٌّۭ مُّبِينٌۭ
fa-aṣbaḥa fī l-madīnati khāifan yataraqqabu fa-idhā alladhī is'tanṣarahu bil-amsi yastaṣrikhuhu qāla lahu mūsā innaka laghawiyyun mubīnun
And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him for help. Moses said to him, "Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator."
28:18

In the morning he was

فَلَمَّآ أَنْ أَرَادَ أَن يَبْطِشَ بِٱلَّذِى هُوَ عَدُوٌّۭ لَّهُمَا قَالَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ أَتُرِيدُ أَن تَقْتُلَنِى كَمَا قَتَلْتَ نَفْسًۢا بِٱلْأَمْسِ ۖ إِن تُرِيدُ إِلَّآ أَن تَكُونَ جَبَّارًۭا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا تُرِيدُ أَن تَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ
falammā an arāda an yabṭisha bi-alladhī huwa ʿaduwwun lahumā qāla yāmūsā aturīdu an taqtulanī kamā qatalta nafsan bil-amsi in turīdu illā an takūna jabbāran fī l-arḍi wamā turīdu an takūna mina l-muṣ'liḥīna
And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, he said, "O Moses, do you intend to kill me as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do not want to be of the amenders."
28:19

wajāa rajulun min aqṣā l-madīnati yasʿā qāla yāmūsā inna l-mala-a yatamirūna bika liyaqtulūka fa-ukh'ruj innī laka mina l-nāṣiḥīna
And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, "O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors."
28:20

So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people."
28:21

walammā warada māa madyana wajada ʿalayhi ummatan mina l-nāsi yasqūna wawajada min dūnihimu im'ra-atayni tadhūdāni qāla mā khaṭbukumā qālatā lā nasqī ḥattā yuṣ'dira l-riʿāu wa-abūnā shaykhun kabīrun
And when he came to the water of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women driving back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man."

So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."
28:24

fajāathu iḥ'dāhumā tamshī ʿalā is'tiḥ'yāin qālat inna abī yadʿūka liyajziyaka ajra mā saqayta lanā falammā jāahu waqaṣṣa ʿalayhi l-qaṣaṣa qāla lā takhaf najawta mina l-qawmi l-ẓālimīna
Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, "Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us." So when he came to him and related to him the story, he said, "Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people."

qāla innī urīdu an unkiḥaka iḥ'dā ib'natayya hātayni ʿalā an tajuranī thamāniya ḥijajin fa-in atmamta ʿashran famin ʿindika wamā urīdu an ashuqqa ʿalayka satajidunī in shāa l-lahu mina l-ṣāliḥīna
He said, "Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allāh wills, from among the
righteous."
28:27

[Moses] said, "That is [established] between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete - there is no
injustice to me, and Allāh, over what we say, is
Witness."

falammā qaḍā mūsā l-ajala wasāra bi-ahlihi ānasa min jānibi l-ṭūri nāran qāla li-ahlihi um'kuthū innī ānastu nāran laʿallī ātīkum min'hā bikhabarin aw jadhwatin mina l-nāri laʿallakum taṣṭalūna
And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a
fire. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a
fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there some information or a burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves."
28:29

falammā atāhā nūdiya min shāṭi-i l-wādi l-aymani fī l-buq'ʿati l-mubārakati mina l-shajarati an yāmūsā innī anā l-lahu rabbu l-ʿālamīna
But when he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot - from the
tree, "O Moses, indeed I am Allāh, Lord of the worlds."
28:30

wa-an alqi ʿaṣāka falammā raāhā tahtazzu ka-annahā jānnun wallā mud'biran walam yuʿaqqib yāmūsā aqbil walā takhaf innaka mina l-āminīna
And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it moving as if it were a
snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allāh said], "O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure."
28:31

us'luk yadaka fī jaybika takhruj bayḍāa min ghayri sūin wa-uḍ'mum ilayka janāḥaka mina l-rahbi fadhānika bur'hānāni min rabbika ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi innahum kānū qawman fāsiqīna
Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm to yourself, [withdrawn] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient.
28:32

وَأَخِى هَـٰرُونُ هُوَ أَفْصَحُ مِنِّى لِسَانًۭا فَأَرْسِلْهُ مَعِىَ رِدْءًۭا يُصَدِّقُنِىٓ ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّبُونِ
wa-akhī hārūnu huwa afṣaḥu minnī lisānan fa-arsil'hu maʿiya rid'an yuṣaddiqunī innī akhāfu an yukadhibūni
And my brother Aaron is more eloquent than I in speech, so send him with me as a helper, confirming me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me.
28:34

qāla sanashuddu ʿaḍudaka bi-akhīka wanajʿalu lakumā sul'ṭānan falā yaṣilūna ilaykumā biāyātinā antumā wamani ittabaʿakumā l-ghālibūna
[Allāh] said, "We will strengthen your arm through your brother and grant you both authority so they will not reach you. [Go] with Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the predominant."
28:35

falammā jāahum mūsā biāyātinā bayyinātin qālū mā hādhā illā siḥ'run muf'taran wamā samiʿ'nā bihādhā fī ābāinā l-awalīna
But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented
magic, and we have not heard of this [
religion] among our forefathers."
28:36

waqāla mūsā rabbī aʿlamu biman jāa bil-hudā min ʿindihi waman takūnu lahu ʿāqibatu l-dāri innahu lā yuf'liḥu l-ẓālimūna
And Moses said, "My Lord is more knowing of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be the good end of the home. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed."
28:37

وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمَلَأُ مَا عَلِمْتُ لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرِى فَأَوْقِدْ لِى يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلطِّينِ فَٱجْعَل لِّى صَرْحًۭا لَّعَلِّىٓ أَطَّلِعُ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ
waqāla fir'ʿawnu yāayyuhā l-mala-u mā ʿalim'tu lakum min ilāhin ghayrī fa-awqid lī yāhāmānu ʿalā l-ṭīni fa-ij'ʿal lī ṣarḥan laʿallī aṭṭaliʿu ilā ilāhi mūsā wa-innī la-aẓunnuhu mina l-kādhibīna
And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Hāmān, [a fire] upon the
clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."
28:38

wa-is'takbara huwa wajunūduhu fī l-arḍi bighayri l-ḥaqi waẓannū annahum ilaynā lā yur'jaʿūna
And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.
28:39

fa-akhadhnāhu wajunūdahu fanabadhnāhum fī l-yami fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-ẓālimīna
So We seized him and his soldiers and threw them into the
sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.
28:40

فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ
So We seized him

and We threw them

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ أَئِمَّةًۭ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ ۖ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ لَا يُنصَرُونَ
wajaʿalnāhum a-immatan yadʿūna ilā l-nāri wayawma l-qiyāmati lā yunṣarūna
And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of
Resurrection they will not be helped.
28:41

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ
And We made them
wajaʿalnāhum

wa-atbaʿnāhum fī hādhihi l-dun'yā laʿnatan wayawma l-qiyāmati hum mina l-maqbūḥīna
28:42

وَأَتْبَعْنَـٰهُمْ
And We caused to follow them
wa-atbaʿnāhum

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَآ أَهْلَكْنَا ٱلْقُرُونَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ بَصَآئِرَ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًۭى وَرَحْمَةًۭ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba min baʿdi mā ahlaknā l-qurūna l-ūlā baṣāira lilnnāsi wahudan waraḥmatan laʿallahum yatadhakkarūna
And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.
28:43

wamā kunta bijānibi l-gharbiyi idh qaḍaynā ilā mūsā l-amra wamā kunta mina l-shāhidīna
And you, [O Muḥammad], were not on the western side [of the mount] when We decreed to Moses the command, nor were you among the witnesses.
28:44

walākinnā anshanā qurūnan fataṭāwala ʿalayhimu l-ʿumuru wamā kunta thāwiyan fī ahli madyana tatlū ʿalayhim āyātinā walākinnā kunnā mur'silīna
But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and long was the life that passed over them. And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message].
28:45

wamā kunta bijānibi l-ṭūri idh nādaynā walākin raḥmatan min rabbika litundhira qawman mā atāhum min nadhīrin min qablika laʿallahum yatadhakkarūna
And you were not at the side of the mount when We called [Moses], but [We sent you] as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before you that they might be reminded.
28:46

walawlā an tuṣībahum muṣībatun bimā qaddamat aydīhim fayaqūlū rabbanā lawlā arsalta ilaynā rasūlan fanattabiʿa āyātika wanakūna mina l-mu'minīna
And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth, and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...
28:47

فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِنْ عِندِنَا قَالُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُوتِىَ مِثْلَ مَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰٓ ۚ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ قَالُوا۟ سِحْرَانِ تَظَـٰهَرَا وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا بِكُلٍّۢ كَـٰفِرُونَ
falammā jāahumu l-ḥaqu min ʿindinā qālū lawlā ūtiya mith'la mā ūtiya mūsā awalam yakfurū bimā ūtiya mūsā min qablu qālū siḥ'rāni taẓāharā waqālū innā bikullin kāfirūna
But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, "Why was he not given like that which was given to Moses?" Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Moses before? They said, "[The two were] two works of magic supporting each other, and they said, "Indeed, in both we are disbelievers."
28:48

qul fatū bikitābin min ʿindi l-lahi huwa ahdā min'humā attabiʿ'hu in kuntum ṣādiqīna
Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allāh which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful."
28:49

fa-in lam yastajībū laka fa-iʿ'lam annamā yattabiʿūna ahwāahum waman aḍallu mimmani ittabaʿa hawāhu bighayri hudan mina l-lahi inna l-laha lā yahdī l-qawma l-ẓālimīna
But if they do not respond to you - then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allāh? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people.
28:50

And We have certainly presented to them the Word that they might be reminded.
28:51

And indeed

alladhīna ātaynāhumu l-kitāba min qablihi hum bihi yu'minūna
Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it - they are believers in it.
28:52

wa-idhā yut'lā ʿalayhim qālū āmannā bihi innahu l-ḥaqu min rabbinā innā kunnā min qablihi mus'limīna
And when it is recited to them, they say, "We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [submitting to Allāh]."
28:53

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُؤْتَوْنَ أَجْرَهُم مَّرَّتَيْنِ بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ
ulāika yu'tawna ajrahum marratayni bimā ṣabarū wayadraūna bil-ḥasanati l-sayi-ata wamimmā razaqnāhum yunfiqūna
Those will be given their reward twice for what they patiently endured and [because] they avert
evil with good, and from what We have provided them they spend.
28:54

وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱللَّغْوَ أَعْرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ لَنَآ أَعْمَـٰلُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ لَا نَبْتَغِى ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ
wa-idhā samiʿū l-laghwa aʿraḍū ʿanhu waqālū lanā aʿmālunā walakum aʿmālukum salāmun ʿalaykum lā nabtaghī l-jāhilīna
And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant."
28:55

innaka lā tahdī man aḥbabta walākinna l-laha yahdī man yashāu wahuwa aʿlamu bil-muh'tadīna
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.
28:56

وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِن نَّتَّبِعِ ٱلْهُدَىٰ مَعَكَ نُتَخَطَّفْ مِنْ أَرْضِنَآ ۚ أَوَلَمْ نُمَكِّن لَّهُمْ حَرَمًا ءَامِنًۭا يُجْبَىٰٓ إِلَيْهِ ثَمَرَٰتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ رِّزْقًۭا مِّن لَّدُنَّا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
waqālū in nattabiʿi l-hudā maʿaka nutakhaṭṭaf min arḍinā awalam numakkin lahum ḥaraman āminan yuj'bā ilayhi thamarātu kulli shay-in riz'qan min ladunnā walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūna
And they say, "If we were to follow the guidance with you, we would be swept from our land." Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.
28:57

wakam ahlaknā min qaryatin baṭirat maʿīshatahā fatil'ka masākinuhum lam tus'kan min baʿdihim illā qalīlan wakunnā naḥnu l-wārithīna
And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living? And those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors.
28:58

وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ مُهْلِكَ ٱلْقُرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ يَبْعَثَ فِىٓ أُمِّهَا رَسُولًۭا يَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا ۚ وَمَا كُنَّا مُهْلِكِى ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ إِلَّا وَأَهْلُهَا ظَـٰلِمُونَ
wamā kāna rabbuka muh'lika l-qurā ḥattā yabʿatha fī ummihā rasūlan yatlū ʿalayhim āyātinā wamā kunnā muh'likī l-qurā illā wa-ahluhā ẓālimūna
And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother city a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers.
28:59

وَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن شَىْءٍۢ فَمَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتُهَا ۚ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
wamā ūtītum min shay-in famatāʿu l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wazīnatuhā wamā ʿinda l-lahi khayrun wa-abqā afalā taʿqilūna
And whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] the
enjoyment of worldly life and its
adornment. And what is with Allāh is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason?
28:60

أَفَمَن وَعَدْنَـٰهُ وَعْدًا حَسَنًۭا فَهُوَ لَـٰقِيهِ كَمَن مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُ مَتَـٰعَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ هُوَ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ
afaman waʿadnāhu waʿdan ḥasanan fahuwa lāqīhi kaman mattaʿnāhu matāʿa l-ḥayati l-dun'yā thumma huwa yawma l-qiyāmati mina l-muḥ'ḍarīna
Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will meet [in the Hereafter] like he whom We have provided with the good things of this worldly life? Then he, on the
Day of Resurrection, will be among those presented [for punishment in
Hell].
28:61

And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' whom you used to claim?"
28:62

qāla alladhīna ḥaqqa ʿalayhimu l-qawlu rabbanā hāulāi alladhīna aghwaynā aghwaynāhum kamā ghawaynā tabarranā ilayka mā kānū iyyānā yaʿbudūna
Those against whom the word will have come true will say, "Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship us."
28:63

waqīla id'ʿū shurakāakum fadaʿawhum falam yastajībū lahum wara-awū l-ʿadhāba law annahum kānū yahtadūna
And it will be said, "Invoke your 'partners' "; and they will invoke them, but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance!
28:64

And it will be said

And they will call them

And the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?"
28:65

faʿamiyat ʿalayhimu l-anbāu yawma-idhin fahum lā yatasāalūna
But the information will be obscured from them that Day, so they will not [be able to] ask one another.
28:66

But (will) be obscure

fa-ammā man tāba waāmana waʿamila ṣāliḥan faʿasā an yakūna mina l-muf'liḥīna
But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is promised that he will be among the successful.
28:67

وَرَبُّكَ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ وَيَخْتَارُ ۗ مَا كَانَ لَهُمُ ٱلْخِيَرَةُ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
warabbuka yakhluqu mā yashāu wayakhtāru mā kāna lahumu l-khiyaratu sub'ḥāna l-lahi wataʿālā ʿammā yush'rikūna
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allāh and high above what they associate with Him.
28:68

And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.
28:69

وَمَا
and what
wamā

يُعْلِنُونَ
they declare
yuʿ'linūna
وَهُوَ ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْحَمْدُ فِى ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ وَلَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
wahuwa l-lahu lā ilāha illā huwa lahu l-ḥamdu fī l-ūlā wal-ākhirati walahu l-ḥuk'mu wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūna
And He is Allāh; there is no deity except Him. To Him is due praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned.
28:70

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِن جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ سَرْمَدًا إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ مَنْ إِلَـٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَأْتِيكُم بِضِيَآءٍ ۖ أَفَلَا تَسْمَعُونَ
qul ara-aytum in jaʿala l-lahu ʿalaykumu al-layla sarmadan ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati man ilāhun ghayru l-lahi yatīkum biḍiyāin afalā tasmaʿūna
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the
night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you light? Then will you not hear?"
28:71

qul ara-aytum in jaʿala l-lahu ʿalaykumu l-nahāra sarmadan ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati man ilāhun ghayru l-lahi yatīkum bilaylin taskunūna fīhi afalā tub'ṣirūna
Say, "Have you considered: if Allāh should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allāh could bring you a night in which to rest? Then will you not see?"
28:72

wamin raḥmatihi jaʿala lakumu al-layla wal-nahāra litaskunū fīhi walitabtaghū min faḍlihi walaʿallakum tashkurūna
And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful.
28:73

And on the Day He will call them and say, "Where are My 'partners' whom you used to claim?"
28:74

wanazaʿnā min kulli ummatin shahīdan faqul'nā hātū bur'hānakum faʿalimū anna l-ḥaqa lillahi waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūna
And We will extract from every
nation a witness and say, "Produce your proof," and they will know that the truth belongs to Allāh, and lost from them is what they used to invent.
28:75

And We will draw forth

۞ إِنَّ قَـٰرُونَ كَانَ مِن قَوْمِ مُوسَىٰ فَبَغَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلْكُنُوزِ مَآ إِنَّ مَفَاتِحَهُۥ لَتَنُوٓأُ بِٱلْعُصْبَةِ أُو۟لِى ٱلْقُوَّةِ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُۥ قَوْمُهُۥ لَا تَفْرَحْ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْفَرِحِينَ
inna qārūna kāna min qawmi mūsā fabaghā ʿalayhim waātaynāhu mina l-kunūzi mā inna mafātiḥahu latanūu bil-ʿuṣ'bati ulī l-quwati idh qāla lahu qawmuhu lā tafraḥ inna l-laha lā yuḥibbu l-fariḥīna
Indeed, Qārūn was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allāh does not like the exultant.
28:76

wa-ib'taghi fīmā ātāka l-lahu l-dāra l-ākhirata walā tansa naṣībaka mina l-dun'yā wa-aḥsin kamā aḥsana l-lahu ilayka walā tabghi l-fasāda fī l-arḍi inna l-laha lā yuḥibbu l-muf'sidīna
But seek, through that which Allāh has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allāh has done good to you. And desire not
corruption in the land. Indeed, Allāh does not like corrupters."
28:77

qāla innamā ūtītuhu ʿalā ʿil'min ʿindī awalam yaʿlam anna l-laha qad ahlaka min qablihi mina l-qurūni man huwa ashaddu min'hu quwwatan wa-aktharu jamʿan walā yus'alu ʿan dhunūbihimu l-muj'rimūna
He said, "I was only given it because of knowledge I have." Did he not know that Allāh had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in strength and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked.
28:78

fakharaja ʿalā qawmihi fī zīnatihi qāla alladhīna yurīdūna l-ḥayata l-dun'yā yālayta lanā mith'la mā ūtiya qārūnu innahu ladhū ḥaẓẓin ʿaẓīmin
So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qārūn. Indeed, he is one of great fortune."
28:79

waqāla alladhīna ūtū l-ʿil'ma waylakum thawābu l-lahi khayrun liman āmana waʿamila ṣāliḥan walā yulaqqāhā illā l-ṣābirūna
But those who had been given knowledge said, "Woe to you! The reward of Allāh is better for one who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient."
28:80

fakhasafnā bihi wabidārihi l-arḍa famā kāna lahu min fi-atin yanṣurūnahu min dūni l-lahi wamā kāna mina l-muntaṣirīna
And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor was he of those who could defend themselves.
28:81

وَأَصْبَحَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَمَنَّوْا۟ مَكَانَهُۥ بِٱلْأَمْسِ يَقُولُونَ وَيْكَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقْدِرُ ۖ لَوْلَآ أَن مَّنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا لَخَسَفَ بِنَا ۖ وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
wa-aṣbaḥa alladhīna tamannaw makānahu bil-amsi yaqūlūna wayka-anna l-laha yabsuṭu l-riz'qa liman yashāu min ʿibādihi wayaqdiru lawlā an manna l-lahu ʿalaynā lakhasafa binā wayka-annahu lā yuf'liḥu l-kāfirūna
And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, "Oh, how Allāh extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allāh had conferred favor upon us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!"
28:82

til'ka l-dāru l-ākhiratu najʿaluhā lilladhīna lā yurīdūna ʿuluwwan fī l-arḍi walā fasādan wal-ʿāqibatu lil'muttaqīna
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
28:83

مَن جَآءَ بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُۥ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْهَا ۖ وَمَن جَآءَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ فَلَا يُجْزَى ٱلَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
man jāa bil-ḥasanati falahu khayrun min'hā waman jāa bil-sayi-ati falā yuj'zā alladhīna ʿamilū l-sayiāti illā mā kānū yaʿmalūna
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed - then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [according to] what they used to do.
28:84

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِى فَرَضَ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لَرَآدُّكَ إِلَىٰ مَعَادٍۢ ۚ قُل رَّبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ مَن جَآءَ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَمَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
inna alladhī faraḍa ʿalayka l-qur'āna larādduka ilā maʿādin qul rabbī aʿlamu man jāa bil-hudā waman huwa fī ḍalālin mubīnin
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur’ān will take you back to a place of return. Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in manifest error."
28:85

وَمَا كُنتَ تَرْجُوٓا۟ أَن يُلْقَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ إِلَّا رَحْمَةًۭ مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۖ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ ظَهِيرًۭا لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
wamā kunta tarjū an yul'qā ilayka l-kitābu illā raḥmatan min rabbika falā takūnanna ẓahīran lil'kāfirīna
And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers.
28:86

وَلَا يَصُدُّنَّكَ عَنْ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بَعْدَ إِذْ أُنزِلَتْ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَٱدْعُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
walā yaṣuddunnaka ʿan āyāti l-lahi baʿda idh unzilat ilayka wa-ud'ʿu ilā rabbika walā takūnanna mina l-mush'rikīna
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allāh after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allāh.
28:87

وَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۘ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ كُلُّ شَىْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَهُۥ ۚ لَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
walā tadʿu maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara lā ilāha illā huwa kullu shay-in hālikun illā wajhahu lahu l-ḥuk'mu wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūna
And do not invoke with Allāh another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face. His is the judgement, and to Him you will be returned.
28:88
