Bible Miracles: Voids In The Universe

As discussed in the Bible Miracles article “Space is Empty” I mentioned Job 26:7: He stretches out the North over the void (empty space) and hangs the Earth on nothing. This is an interesting verse as it also talks about some void other than the hanging of Earth on nothing. In my opinion, there could be two candidates for this thing in the North. Either some big void of the Universe or a massive black hole.

The Bootes void or The Great Nothing is a large spherical region of space, containing very few galaxies. It is located in the vicinity of the constellation Bootes. With nearly 330 million light-years in diameter, the Bootes void is one of the largest known voids in the Universe and is referred to as a supervoid. According to astronomer Greg Aldering, the scale of the void is such that “If the Milky Way had been in the center of the Bootes void, we wouldn’t have known there were other galaxies until the 1960s.

Another candidate could be a massive black hole. A black hole’s gravitational field is so strong that nothing, not even light, escapes. And because blackhole sucks everything inside, even the nearby stars and nothing remain visible. Thus it could be a candidate of that void in the North.
