Bible Miracles: The Universe is Expanding

The expansion of the universe is the increase of the distance between two distant parts of the universe with time. I remember whenever in my childhood, I thought about space and the horrible distances in between celestial bodies planets stars and galaxies I felt a cold wave in my spinal cord. For most of the people, it is the matter this material world that terrifies them. The huge piles of matter in the form of earth planets and stars and their abundance in the universe. But for me, this empty space is more a reason to cause shivering in my body. Not only this, but as I told you in part 16 this huge universe is also expanding and in just 1 hour the size of our universe increases to almost 3.5 billion Km to 7 billion Km. Depending if we take the observable universe as 46 Billion light years across or 92 billion LY across respectively. This size is increasing only because of space which is expanding. Now I give you an example that why this empty space is more a reason to cause shivering in my body. Consider you have a piece of land. Now you can sow and cultivate whatever type of crop, plants you like in that land and it will come out from that land and you can even take its soil and can make your house or whatever you like. Everything is possible but your land your total area your total space will never increase in size. This is what happening in the universe that it is growing in size.

Early 20th century, most scientists believed the universe was static. Others believed it should have collapsed due to gravity. Then in 1929, astronomer Edwin Hubble showed that distant galaxies were receding from the Earth, and that there is a direct relationship between the speeds of distant galaxies and their distances from Earth. And now it is a proved fact that the universe is expanding.

Now look that almost three thousand years ago this is what the Bible told us. At least nine times in the Bible we are clearly told that God stretches out the heavens like a curtain. Psalm 104:2, Job 9:8; Isaiah 42:5; Jeremiah 10:12, Jeremiah 51:15; Zechariah 12:1, Isaiah 40:22, Isaiah 45:12, Isaiah 51:13

Isaiah 45:12: “I made the earth and created man on it; it was my hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host” ESV
Isaiah 40:22: “It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in” ESV
Job 9:8: “who alone stretched out the heavens and trampled the waves of the sea” ESV
Isaiah 42:5: “Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it” ESV
Jeremiah 10:12: “It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens” ESV
Zechariah 12:1: “The burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel: Thus declares the LORD, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man within him” ESV
