PETER-2 SUMMARY
This book is also considered as a letter written by Peter although its authorship has been challenged many times in history. But still, the majority of elders recognized it as Peter’s letter. Peter is one among four prominent apostles of Jesus. Peter original name was Simeon son of Jonah. Born in a Greek city of Bethsaida but he also lived in Capernaum in Galilee. He worked as a fisherman and have much contact with Gentiles. Peter was one of the first disciples called. He always stands first in the lists of disciples. This Book was written toward the end of Peter’s life. Since Peter was killed in Rome during the rule of Nero, his death must have happened earlier to AD 68. So this Book most likely written around 65-68AD. It is written to Christians scattered throughout the region of Asia Minor modern-day Turkey specially addressing to Christians residing in Pontus, Cappadocia, Galatia, Asia, and Bithynia, a vast area of approx. 200,000 square Km. The subject of this letter is pure knowledge. Peter explains that misleading teachers had crawled in and were quietly undermining the true teachings of the Gospel. There is also a caution a warning against apostasy that do not revert to sin after converting to Christian. And that such a person would be worse off than before as in chapter 2 verse 20 and a warning of the old saying that a “dog returns to its vomit,” and a “the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire” as in Chapter 2 verse 22.
