ZEPHANIAH SUMMARY
Zephaniah is a book about the day of the LORD. That is a phrase we have seen before in books of prophets esp. Amos. The book begins: I will sweep away everything from the face of the earth, declares the LORD. Zephaniah was a prophet at the same time when Jeremiah was a prophet. He prophesied during King Josiah’s righteous reign followed by the sinful reigns of Manasseh and Amon, who led the nation into various kinds of idolatry. The book pronounces the Lord’s judgment on the whole earth, on Judah, on the surrounding nations, on Jerusalem and on all nations followed by blessings on nations especially on the faithful remnant of His people in Judah.
CHAPTER WISE SUMMARY:
Chapter#1: The Judgment of God upon Judah. The time when Zephaniah prophesied. The Great Day of the LORD is near, it is near. That day is a day of wrath. Lord said, “I will sweep away everything from the earth.”
Chapter#2: The Judgment of God upon Surrounding Nations. The Doom Of The Nations Around Israel. The judgment of the Philistines, Moab, Ammon, Ethiopia and Assyria.
Chapter#3: Millennial Blessings in Israel. A piece of advice to wait for the restoration of Israel. Final Restoration Promised. God will exult over Zion. Lord said Sing, O Zion! The LORD will quiet you by his love.
