ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
Ar-Rahman
The Most Merciful
55:1

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ
The Most Gracious
al-raḥmānu
عَلَّمَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
ʿAllama al-Qur'an
Taught the Qur'an,
55:2

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ
Khalaqa al-insan
Created man,
55:3

[the] man

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلْبَيَانَ
ʿAllamahu al-bayan
[And] taught him eloquence.
55:4

ٱلْبَيَانَ
[the] speech
l-bayāna
ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍۢ
Ash-shamsu wal-qamaru biḥusban
The
sun and the
moon [move] by precise calculation,
55:5

بِحُسْبَانٍۢ
by (precise) calculation
biḥus'bānin
وَٱلنَّجْمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ
Wan-najmu wash-shajaru yasjudan
And the stars and trees prostrate.
55:6

And the stars

وَٱلشَّجَرُ
and the trees
wal-shajaru

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلْمِيزَانَ
Was-sama'a rafaʿaha wawaḍaʿa al-mizan
And the
heaven He raised and imposed the balance
55:7

Alla taṭghaw fi al-mizan
That you not transgress within the balance.
55:8

Wa-aqimu al-wazna bil-qisṭi wala tukhshiru al-mizan
And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.
55:9

earth He laid [out] for the creatures.
55:10

فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌۭ وَٱلنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ ٱلْأَكْمَامِ
Fiha fakihatun wan-nakhlu dhatu al-akmam
Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]
55:11

and date-palms

وَٱلْحَبُّ ذُو ٱلْعَصْفِ وَٱلرَّيْحَانُ
Wal-ḥabbu dhu al-ʿaṣfi war-rayḥan
And
grain having husks and scented plants.
55:12

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
Fabi-ayyi ala-i rabbikuma tukadhdhiban
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:13

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍۢ كَٱلْفَخَّارِ
Khalaqa al-insana min ṣalṣalin kal-fakhkhar
He created man from
clay like [that of] pottery.
55:14

Wakhalaqa al-janna min marijin min nar
And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of
fire.
55:15

55:16

Rabbu al-mashriqayni warabbu al-maghribayn
[He is] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets.
55:17

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:18

Maraja al-baḥrayni yaltaqiyan
He released the two seas, meeting [side by side];
55:19

barrier [so] neither of them transgresses.
55:20

55:21

Yakhruju minhuma al-lu'lu'u wal-marjan
From both of them emerge
pearl and coral.
55:22

55:23

وَلَهُ ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلْأَعْلَـٰمِ
Walahu al-jawari al-munsha'atu fi al-baḥri kal-aʿlam
And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the
sea like
mountains.
55:24

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:25

Kullu man ʿalayha fan
Everyone upon the earth will perish,
55:26

وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلْجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ

And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
55:27

55:28

يَسْـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ فِى شَأْنٍۢ
Yas'aluhu man fi as-samawati wal-arḍ. Kulla yawmin huwa fi sha'n
Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him; every day He is bringing about a matter.
55:29

We will attend to you, O prominent beings.

يَـٰمَعْشَرَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنْ أَقْطَارِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ ۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ
Ya maʿshara al-jinni wal-insi ini istaṭaʿtum an tanfudhu min aqṭari as-samawati wal-arḍi fanfudhu la tanfudhuna illa bisulṭan
O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass. You will not pass except by authority [from Allah].
55:33

Fabi-ayyi ala-i rabbikuma tukadhdhiban
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:34

يُرْسَلُ عَلَيْكُمَا شُوَاظٌۭ مِّن نَّارٍۢ وَنُحَاسٌۭ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ
Yursalu ʿalaykuma shuwazun min narin wanuḥasun fala tantaṣiran
There will be sent upon you a flame of fire and smoke, and you will not defend yourselves.
55:35

55:36

Fa-idha anshaqqati as-sama'u fakanat wardatan kad-dihan
And when the heaven is split open and becomes rose-colored like

Fabi-ayyi ala-i rabbikuma tukadhdhiban
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:38

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يُسْـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسٌۭ وَلَا جَآنٌّۭ
Fayawma-idhin la yus'alu ʿan dhanbihi insun wala jann
Then on that Day none will be asked about his sin among men or jinn.
55:39

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:40

يُعْرَفُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ فَيُؤْخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِى وَٱلْأَقْدَامِ
Yuʿrafu al-mujrimuna bisimahum fayu'khadhu bin-nawaṣi wal-aqdam
The
criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.
55:41

وَٱلْأَقْدَامِ
and the feet
wal-aqdāmi
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ
Fabi-ayyi ala-i rabbikuma tukadhdhiban
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
55:42

(of) your Lord

تُكَذِّبَانِ
will you both deny

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
Hadhihi jahannamu allati yukadhdhibu biha al-mujrimun
This is
Hell, which the criminals deny.
55:43

They will go around between it and scalding water, heated [to the utmost].
55:44

Waliman khafa maqama rabbihi jannatan
But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens -

In both of them are two springs, flowing.
55:50

Fabi-ayyi ala-i rabbikuma tukadhdhiban
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

Muttaki-ina ʿala furushin baṭa-inuha min istabraq wajana al-jannatayni dan
[They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.
55:54

Fihinna qaṣiratu aṭ-ṭarfi lam yaṭmithhunna insun qablahum wala jann
In them are women limiting [their] glances, untouched before them by man or jinni -
55:56
