Bible Miracles: Prophecies Regarding Tyre

Alexander Entering Tyre City
Bible correctly and repeatedly foretells the future. There are many fulfilled prophecies regarding Tyre and its fall.

Tyre was an island fortress city with settlements along the shore. These settlements were destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar II, but after a 13-year siege from 585–573 BC, the King of Tyre made peace with Nebuchadnezzar, going into exile and leaving the island city itself intact. During the siege of 573 B.C., much of the population of Tyre moved to its new island home approximately half a mile from the land city. Here it remained surrounded by walls as high as 150 feet until judgment fell in 332 B.C. with the arrival of Alexander the Great.

Tyre Under Flood
In the seven month siege, he fulfilled the remainder of the prophecies concerning the city at sea by completely destroying Tyre, killing 8,000 of its inhabitants and selling 30,000 of its population into slavery. To reach the island, he scraped up the dust and rubble of the old land city of Tyre, just like the Bible predicted, and cast them into the sea, building a 200-foot-wide causeway out to the island. This brings an end to the Phoenician Empire. Then, after that, Tyre later fell again under the rule of the Romans, the Crusaders, and the Moslems, who destroyed the city yet again, in 1291.

Ezekiel 26:3: Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up. NKJV

Zechariah 9:4: Behold, the Lord will cast her out; He will destroy her power in the sea, And she will be devoured by fire. NKJV

Ezekiel 26:12: They will plunder your riches and pillage your merchandise; they will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses; they will lay your stones, your timber, and your soil in the midst of the water. NKJV

Ezekiel 25:14:  I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, that they may do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance,” says the Lord God. NKJV

In Ezekiel 25:14, the prophet predicts that the Jews will eventually have revenge against the Edomites. This was not fulfilled, however for over 400 years until approximately 100 BC Jews regained independence for Jerusalem and the surrounding area during the “Hasmonaean Period.

A Synthesis of Religions: The Case of God

Praise belongs to God, the Lord of all realms, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, the One who shaped the human being from clay and breathed into him of His Spirit; the One who sent Messengers, one after another, bearing truth, guidance, and the balance, so that mankind may stand upon justice and not transgress its bounds.

Here is a discourse meant not to conquer but to illuminate,
Not to divide but to gather,
Not to exalt the writer but to exalt the Word of God. So approach with hearts unburdened,
 With intellects awakened,
With spirits yearning for the Mercy of the All-Merciful. For the earth endures by His command,
 And knowledge is a trust,
And every soul shall be returned to its Lord.
