لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
Lā uqsimu biyawmi l-qiyāmah
75:1

by (the) Day

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
l-qiyāmati
وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
Wa lā uqsimu bin-nafsi l-lawwāmah
And I swear by the reproaching
soul [to the certainty of resurrection].
75:2

Ayaḥsabu l-insānu allan najmaʿa ʿiẓāmah
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?
75:3

We will assemble

بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ
Balā qādirīna ʿalā an nusawwiya banānah
Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his
fingertips.
75:4

(We are) Able

We can restore
nusawwiya
بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
Bal yurīdu l-insānu liyafjura amāmah
But man desires to continue in sin.
75:5

[the] man

لِيَفْجُرَ
to give (the) lie

أَمَامَهُۥ
(to) what is before him

يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
Yas'alu ayyāna yawmu l-qiyāmah
75:6

He asks

(is the) Day

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
(of) the Resurrection
l-qiyāmati
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ
Fa-idhā bariqa l-baṣar
So when vision is dazzled
75:7

وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ
Wa khasafa l-qamar
75:8

وَخَسَفَ
And becomes dark

وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ
Wa jumiʿa sh-shamsu wal-qamar
And the
sun and the moon are joined,
75:9
Verb
وَجُمِعَ
And are joined
wajumiʿa
Noun
وَٱلْقَمَرُ
and the moon
wal-qamaru
يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ
Yaqūlu l-insānu yawma-idhin ayna l-mafar
Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"
75:10

ٱلْمَفَرُّ
(is) the escape

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
Kallā lā wazar
No! There is no refuge.
75:11

(There is) no

وَزَرَ
refuge
wazara
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
Ilā rabbika yawma-idhin l-mustaqar
To your Lord, that Day, is the [final] destination.
75:12

ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
(is) the place of rest
l-mus'taqaru
يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
Yunabba'u l-insānu yawma-idhin bimā qaddama wa akhkhar
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.
75:13

يُنَبَّؤُا۟
Will be informed
yunabba-u

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ
[the] man

يَوْمَئِذٍۭ
that Day
yawma-idhin

بِمَا
of what
bimā

قَدَّمَ
he sent forth
qaddama
Verb
وَأَخَّرَ
and kept back
wa-akhara
بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌۭ
Bali l-insānu ʿalā nafsihī baṣīrah
Rather, man, against himself, will be a
witness,
75:14

[The] man

بَصِيرَةٌۭ
baṣīratun
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
Wa law alqā maʿādhīrah
Even if he presents his excuses.
75:15

لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ
Lā tuḥarrik bihī lisānaka litaʿjala bih
Do not move your
tongue with it, [O Muḥammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur’ān.
75:16

إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
Inna ʿalaynā jamʿahu wa qurʾānah
Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation.
75:17

(is) its collection

وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
and its recitation

فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ
Fa-idhā qaraʾnāhu fattabiʿ qurʾānah
So when We have recited it [through
Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
75:18

And when

We have recited it

فَٱتَّبِعْ
then follow
fa-ittabiʿ

قُرْءَانَهُۥ

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ
Thumma inna ʿalaynā bayānah
Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].
75:19

بَيَانَهُۥ
(is) its explanation
bayānahu
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
Kallā bal tuḥibbūna l-ʿājilah
No! But you love the immediate
75:20

ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
the immediate
l-ʿājilata
وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
Wa tadharūna l-ākhirah
75:21

And leave

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
l-ākhirata
وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاضِرَةٌ
Wujūhun yawma-idhin nāḍirah
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,
75:22

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ
that Day
yawma-idhin

نَّاضِرَةٌ
(will be) radiant
nāḍiratun
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌۭ
Ilā rabbihā nāẓirah
Looking at their Lord.
75:23

Towards

نَاظِرَةٌۭ
looking
nāẓiratun
وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌۭ
Wa wujūhun yawma-idhin bāsirah
And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,
75:24

And faces

يَوْمَئِذٍۭ
that Day
yawma-idhin

بَاسِرَةٌۭ
(will be) distorted
bāsiratun
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌۭ
Taẓunnu an yufʿala bihā fāqirah
Expecting that there will be done to them what is back-breaking.
75:25

فَاقِرَةٌۭ
backbreaking

كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ
Kallā idhā balaghati t-tarāqī
No! When the soul has reached the collar bones
75:26

وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍۢ
Wa qīla man rāq
And it is said, "Who is a magician [who can cure]?"
75:27

And it is said

(will) cure

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ
Wa ẓanna annahu l-firāq
And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation
75:28

And he is certain

ٱلْفِرَاقُ
(is) the parting

وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ
Waltaffati s-sāqu bis-sāq
And the leg is wound about the leg,
75:29
Verb
وَٱلْتَفَّتِ
And is wound
wal-tafati

ٱلسَّاقُ
the leg
l-sāqu

بِٱلسَّاقِ
about the leg
bil-sāqi
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ
Ilā rabbika yawma-idhin l-masāq
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.
75:30

يَوْمَئِذٍ
that Day

ٱلْمَسَاقُ
(will be) the driving
l-masāqu
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
Falā ṣaddaqa wa lā ṣallā
And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed.
75:31

فَلَا
And not

صَدَّقَ
he accepted (the) truth
ṣaddaqa
Particle
وَلَا
and not
walā
Verb
صَلَّىٰ
he prayed
ṣallā
وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
Wa lākin kadhdhaba wa tawallā
But he denied and turned away.
75:32
Particle
وَلَـٰكِن
But

كَذَّبَ
he denied
kadhaba
Verb
وَتَوَلَّىٰ
and turned away
watawallā
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
Thumma dhahaba ilā ahlihī yatamaṭṭā
And then he went to his people, swaggering [in
pride].
75:33

Woe to you, and woe!
75:34

ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ
Thumma awlā laka fa-awlā
Then woe to you, and woe!
75:35

and woe

أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
Ayaḥsabu l-insānu an yutraka sudā
Does man think that he will be left neglected?
75:36

أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةًۭ مِّن مَّنِىٍّۢ يُمْنَىٰ
Alam yaku nuṭfatan min maniyyin yumnā
Was he not a sperm-drop ejaculated?
75:37

Thumma kāna ʿalaqatan fakhalaqa fasawwā
Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allāh] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
75:38

Fajaʿala min'hu z-zawjayni dh-dhakara wal-unthā
And made of him two mates, the male and the female.
75:39

Alaysa dhālika biqādirin ʿalā an yuḥyiya l-mawtā
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
75:40
