Quran Miracle: It Introduces God As Rahman, Rahim and Ghafur

Mercy & Beneficence Of God: Universal Application

In the Name of Allah
Quran introduces God As Rahman, Rahim and Ghafur. This totally matches with the conformity and consistency required for the operation and survival of a universe as we live in. This trait is a must must for the uniformity of the physical laws and continuity of complex cosmological processes and the existence of living beings.
Arrogant Person Sitting On Cash

O people always thank that your Lord is Gracious and Merciful and not like any powerful person or king of this world. Just think if God would not be like the way He is. Then what would be the situation? Imagine a king or even a powerful authoritative average person around you. How their mood swings, how they change their behaviours, their words, their promises. How forgiving someone totally depends on their mood. How they become angry on their insults. While your Lord listens to all those insulting words, people say against Him day and night.

Do not Despair Of The Mercy Of God
Although He is All-powerful, He has given the freedom and free will not believe in Him and do all that you want to do against Him. He has made a precise method of accounts that whoever will do righteous deeds He will forgive him. He never breaks His promise. Thanks that He is like this. Not even this but for those who do not have good deeds in their accounts He gives them a clear hope by this verse, “Say, O My slaves those who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the Mercy of God. Indeed, God forgives all sins. Indeed, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful”

Abu Huraira said that I heard Prophet of God saying, Allah divided Mercy into 100 parts. He kept its 99 parts with Him and sent down its one part on the earth, and because of that, its one single part, His creations are Merciful to each other, so that even the mare lifts up its hoofs away from its baby animal, lest it should trample on it.”

God's Mercy Encomesses All Things
Salman al Farisi said, The Prophet of God PBUH, said, “Indeed, on the day God created the heavens and earth, He created one hundred parts of Mercy. Each part can fill what is between the heaven and earth. He made one part of Mercy for the earth. From it, a mother has compassion for her child; animals and birds have compassion for each other. On the Day of Resurrection, he will perfect this Mercy.” (Muslim)

Prophet Muhammad said,

“You will not enter Paradise because of your deeds, but by the Rahmah (Mercy) of Allah only”.

The Prophet also said

“When Allah created the creatures, He wrote in the Book, which is with Him over His Throne: Verily, My Mercy prevailed over My Wrath. (Bukhari)

Difference Between Rahman And Rahim

Subhan Allah

Prophet Muhammad once expressed the meaning of Rahman and Rahim by saying that the trait and attribute Rahman generally pertains to this life. His Mercy and love are exhibited in the creation of the universe. He is the bestower of gifts which precede our birth. While the attribute Rahim generally pertains to the life to come and His love and Mercy are manifested in the state that comes after.

The Word Rahman “رَّحْمَٰن” And Rahim “رَّحِيم”

God's Mercy Encomesses All Things
Rahman and Rahim are both active participle nouns of different degrees. These are names, attributes or epithets applied to Allah, denoting intensiveness of significance. Arabic extensiveness is more suited to express God’s attributes than the superlative degree. Rahman conveys the idea of fullness and extensiveness and indicates the greatest preponderance of the quality of love and Mercy, which comprehends the entire universe without regard to our effort and asking even before we are born. The creation of the sun, the moon, air and water etc., all are there because of this attribute. Rahim denotes the idea of constant repetition and giving of liberal reward to those who deserve it and seek of it. The manifestation of this attribute is in response to and is a result of the action of the human being. So the Rahim means extremely and continuously loving and merciful and dispenser of grace and love as a result of our deeds and supplications, and one in whom the attribute is constantly and excessively repeated.

 قُلِ ادْعُوا اللَّهَ أَوِ ادْعُوا الرَّحْمَٰنَ ۖ أَيًّا مَا تَدْعُوا فَلَهُ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ

Say, “Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful. Whichever [name] you call – to Him belong the best names. (Surah Isra 17:110)

Mercy Of God: Statistical Proof From The Quran

99 Names Of Allah

Please go through the statistics that I worked for you and see yourself that in the whole Quran, the predominant trait and attribute of God is a portray of Mercy and Forgiveness. God is mentioned as the proper name of Allah (ٱللَّه) 2699 times.

The root word for Rahman & Rahim is (ر ح م) which occurs 339 times in the Quran, in nine derived forms. The instances where this root word manifests itself in one or other form showing God’s Mercy are 182. Which is: 57 times as the nominal Rahman (رَّحْمَٰن). Four times as the noun Arham (أَرْحَم). Six times as the active participle Rahimin (رَّٰحِمِين)

115 times as the nominal Rahim (رَّحِيم). Rahim is mentioned as 116 times, but one time it was for Prophet Muhammad PBUH Companions as in Surah Fath 48:29

These are all the instances where the name “Rahman” mentioned in the Quran: Surah Fatihah Verse 1 and 3, Surah Baqarah verse 163, Surah Rad verse 30, Surah Isra verse 110, Surah Maryam verse 18, 26, 44, 45, 58, 61, 69, 75, 78, 85, 87, 88, 91, 92, 93 and 96, Surah Taha verse 5, 90, 108 and 109, Surah Anbiya verse 26, 36, 42, 112, Surah Furqan verse 26, 59, 60 and 63, Surah Shuara verse 5, Surah Naml verse 30, Surah Yasin verse 11, 15, 23 and 52, Surah Fussilat verse 2, Surah Zukhruf verse 17, 19, 20, 33, 36, 45 and 81, Surah Qaf verse 33, Surah Rahman verse 1, Surah Hashr verse 22, Surah Mulk verse 3, 19, 20 and 29, Surah Naba verse 37, and 38. Surah Maryam is the chapter in which the name “Rahman” is mentioned the most – 16 times.

Other than that in Quran Allah is mentioned as Ghafur/Ghafir/Ghaffar (Oft-Forgiving) 98 times, Eleven 11 times as (تَوَّاب) Oft-Returning and 11 times as (رَءُوف) Full of Kindness.

Allah Is Great
On the contrary, the Quran mentioned Allah only one time as “Jabbar” الْجَبَّارُ The Irresistible. Six plus two times as the “Qahar” (قَهَّار) & “Qahir” (قَاهِر) The Subjugator. And 88 times as “Aziz” (عَزِيز) the All-Mighty.

So you can see the Mercy of Allah surpasses His Wrath. The name Al Aziz the All-Mighty, should only be considered as just an expression of power and not as an expression of wrath and punishment.

الرَّحِيمِ, الرَّحْمَٰنُ

The root word for Rahman & Rahim is (ر ح م) which occurs 339 times in the Quran, in nine derived forms.

(ر ح م): Pity/mercy. Mercy or compassion; or tenderness or kindness; or beneficence or forgiveness or an inclination to show one of these. Plenty abundance, comforts of life, Tie or tie of relationship so also used as رحم Wombs & blood relations. According to some رحمة is of two kinds, namely gratuitous and obligatory. The first kind embraces everything. The obligatory is that which is promised to pious only. As per rules of the Arabic language the more the number of letters added to the root word, the extensive or more intensive does the meaning become. The measure of فعلان thus conveys the idea of fulness and extensiveness, while the measure of فعيل denotes the concept of repetition and giving liberal reward to those who deserve it. Thus the word “Rahman” الرَّحْمَٰنُ would denote “mercy comprehending the entire universe whereas the word “Rahim” الرَّحِيمِ denotes Mercy limited in scope but repeatedly shown. “In view of the above “Rahman” is He Who shows Mercy gratuitously and extensively to all creation without regard to effort or work and “Rahim” is He Who shows Mercy in response to and as a result of the actions of men but shows it liberally and repeatedly. Moreover “Rahman” is applicable to God only, while the latter is applied to man also.

The root (غ ف ر) occurs 234 times in the Quran, in nine derived forms.

(غ ف ر): To conceal, forgive, give protection, set the affairs right, suppress the defect. To cover, veil or hide (a thing) like “Ghafara Shaib bilkhizab” غفر الشيب بالخضاب He covered white hair with dye. For God, it is as He covered up our sins and pardoned them. Forgive/protection. Protection is of two kinds; Protecting human being from committing the sin and protecting him from the punishment for his sins. “Mighfur” Shield; Helmet, (as they protect a person). “Ghaffara” cloth worn beneath veil to keep it clean/”Maghfarat” Forgiveness. “Istighfar” The act of asking protection and forgiveness. It does not merely mean verbal asking for forgiveness but extends to such acts as lead to the covering up of one’s sins and shortcomings.
